History of Halifax College

Halifax first became a college in 2002, and was originally known as Halifax Court. A notice stating "Halifax Court JCR" is imortalised forever more on the HCSA committee office wall. The college was named after Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, the 1st Earl of Halifax.

Before it became a college, what is now known as St. Lawrence Court was all that stood on the site. This was soon expanded, and most recently has seen expansion in the form of UPP residences Ainsty Court and Hickleton Court.

The various courts are named after the 1st Earl of Halifax's names as well as other things connected with him, his life and his work.
